Venus Retrograde 2026 in Scorpio and Libra: Rethinking Love, Trust and Self-Worth

A relationship can begin with someone new and still bring you back to a familiar place: waiting to be chosen, worrying about being left, trying to prove your worth, or keeping quiet to preserve the connection. Venus retrograde 2026 in Scorpio and Libra offers an opportunity to examine the link between what you want now and the patterns you have carried into love.

Venus is retrograde from 3 October to 14 November 2026, moving back from 8°29′ Scorpio to 22°52′ Libra. In evolutionary astrology, this period draws attention to love, trust, money and self-worth, especially where maintaining a bond has meant losing touch with your own needs.

This article follows the cycle through its key dates, the myth of Inanna, relationship patterns and the three Venus-Pluto squares. Astrology provides a symbolic framework for understanding experience. What happens within a relationship also depends on its circumstances and the choices both people make.

Which Signs Are Most Affected by Venus Retrograde 2026?

The early degrees of Scorpio, Taurus, Leo and Aquarius, and the later degrees of Libra, Aries, Cancer and Capricorn, are most directly involved in this retrograde. Your Sun sign is only one part of the picture. The Moon, Venus, Mars, your Ascendant and the other chart angles also matter.

If you have a planet or important chart point around 0° to 9° of a fixed sign, Venus moving through Scorpio can form a conjunction, opposition or square to it. Placements around 8° to 9° are particularly relevant to the retrograde station. Around 3° to 4°, the repeated Venus-Pluto squares deserve closer attention.

If you have an important placement around 23° to 29° of a cardinal sign, the Libra part of the retrograde and Venus’s direct station become more significant. Nearby degrees can also be involved, depending on the orb used for the aspect.

Having your Sun in Scorpio or Libra does not automatically mean a relationship crisis. One person may be reconsidering commitment, another may be reviewing their fees, family responsibilities or financial dependence. The houses involved and the contacts to your birth chart reveal where this cycle becomes personal.

Venus Retrograde Dates: From the First Shadow to the Final Pass

The retrograde itself lasts approximately 41 days and 17 hours, or almost 42 days. The full sequence of three passages through the same zodiacal degrees extends from late August into December.

All dates and times below are local to Germany. CEST applies before the autumn clock change; CET applies afterwards. The change on 25 October has been included. Times are rounded to the minute, and different ephemerides may vary slightly.

Venus then remains in Scorpio until 7 January 2027.

The shadow is the stretch of the zodiac Venus crosses three times: first moving direct, then retrograde, then direct again. Astrologically, the first passage can introduce a concern, the retrograde can bring it back for review, and the final passage can give you a chance to put a different response into practice. Life rarely divides itself into such tidy stages. Sometimes the significance of an experience becomes clear well after it happens.

What Does Venus Retrograde Mean?

Venus does not physically reverse its orbit. Retrograde describes an apparent change in its direction through the zodiac as seen from Earth. These periods occur roughly every 19 months and usually last about 40 to 43 days.

In astrology, Venus retrograde turns attention towards the wants themselves: the values you inherited, the qualities you seek in a partner, the money you spend to feel accepted, and the pleasure you may have denied yourself.

A relationship that once seemed sufficient may begin to reveal something missing. Something you worked hard to obtain may no longer hold the same appeal. These shifts can reflect a clearer understanding of your needs, though their meaning is best explored alongside what is actually happening in your life.

Venus retrograde invites you to reconsider the standards behind your choices: who you let close, what you invest in, and what you are willing to pay to keep it.

Venus in Evolutionary Astrology: Your Relationship with Yourself

Venus also describes your relationship with your own needs, your sense of enough, your ability to receive, and the value you place on your time, body, talents and resources.

Its Taurus expression concerns basic needs and the resources you can draw on within yourself. Its Libra expression brings those needs into relationship: what you offer, what you receive, and what you expect a partner to provide.

Depending on other people is a normal part of being human. Difficulties can develop when one person becomes almost the sole source of your security or sense of worth. Their disagreement may then feel like a threat to your identity. Their distance can hurt far beyond the circumstances of the moment.

Someone may repeatedly set aside their needs for the reassurance of hearing “I love you”. Another person may maintain their place in a relationship by providing financial support, then feel unsettled when their partner becomes more independent. In both cases, the relationship carries a deeper need that has not yet been fully understood.

Growth begins with recognising the need, taking responsibility for the part that belongs to you, and speaking more clearly about the part that involves another person. To understand how that process works in one person’s life, Venus needs to be read within the structure of their chart.

Recurring Relationship Patterns: Venus, Pluto and the Lunar Nodes

Venus describes part of how we choose a partner and receive affection. Understanding why someone repeatedly finds themselves in a particular kind of relationship requires several parts of the chart to be read together. The interpretation takes shape through their connections, tested against the person’s experience.

In evolutionary astrology, Pluto concerns deep desires, established attachments and the ways a person has come to preserve a sense of survival and continuity. Its sign, house, aspects and the point opposite it help describe the pattern and a capacity whose development may bring a different balance. A close Venus-Pluto contact can connect the need to be loved with power, loss or transformation. Its expression depends on the rest of the chart and on lived experience.

The lunar nodes add another layer. The South Node describes familiar approaches and abilities on which we may have come to rely too heavily. The North Node suggests possibilities for extending experience and developing a different response. The South Node is not simply a weakness, and the North Node offers no guarantee of a favourable outcome. Their planetary rulers and aspects show how these two sides of experience connect.

The seventh house and its ruler help describe participation in a partnership, including qualities we seek in someone else or project onto them. When the seventh-house ruler occupies another house, it connects that house’s concerns with relationship. A connection with the fourth house, for example, may give belonging and family greater significance. It cannot, by itself, establish that a particular family experience occurred.

The Moon, Mars and Saturn can also help us understand emotional needs, the expression of desire, and the experience of commitment or restriction. Transits are then placed against this natal structure. A shared aspect in the sky becomes more personally relevant when it contacts sensitive points in the birth chart.

An Illustrative Example: Wanting Closeness While Protecting Yourself

Consider a hypothetical arrangement: Scorpio rising, Venus conjunct Pluto in the first house, the South Node in Scorpio in the first house, and the North Node in Taurus in the seventh. Venus rules both the seventh house and the North Node, and is itself conjunct Pluto in the first. This is a teaching example, not a client account or a calculated birth chart.

Suppose the person describes a recurring experience. They feel strongly attracted at the beginning of a relationship, then become increasingly watchful of their partner’s intentions as intimacy develops. They seek reassurance through tests of loyalty or keep some feelings concealed. The distance that follows reinforces their original fear.

Within that hypothetical context, Venus and Pluto in the first house can describe how closely being loved has become linked to identity and personal agency. Intimacy may also feel like giving another person the ability to affect them deeply. They monitor the relationship to retain control, even while wanting a close bond.

The South Node in the first house adds the possibility of repeatedly relying on self-protection and making decisions alone. That approach may have developed independence and the ability to cope with difficult circumstances. If it becomes the only available response, however, there is little room to learn about another person gradually. The North Node in Taurus in the seventh introduces the practice of steadiness, cooperation and trust grounded in observable behaviour.

The rulerships now matter. Because the seventh-house ruler and the North Node ruler are the same Venus that is conjunct Pluto in the first house, the relationship with oneself and the relationship with a partner meet at a shared difficulty. The person’s capacity for focus, loyalty and self-understanding can contribute to partnership. They also need experience of cooperation that allows them to retain their agency.

In practice, growth might begin with naming a concern directly rather than testing a partner, allowing consistent behaviour to build trust over time, and tolerating a difference of opinion without immediately ending contact. The partner has responsibilities too. Secrecy or broken agreements need to be addressed in their own right. No chart placement makes someone responsible for another person’s harmful behaviour.

How Venus Retrograde 2026 Could Activate This Pattern

If we place natal Venus at 5° Scorpio in this example, transiting Venus reaches that degree three times during the 2026 cycle: on its first direct passage, during the retrograde, and on its final direct passage. The review now contacts natal Venus, which is both conjunct Pluto and the ruler of partnership and the North Node.

A concern might first become visible through an encounter or disagreement. During the retrograde, the motives behind a response may become clearer. The third passage may offer an opportunity to put a different agreement into practice. This sequence is a framework for interpretation, rather than a promise of particular events. The dates of the individual contacts require the natal degree and an ephemeris calculation; they cannot be taken from the general dates in this article.

The transiting Venus-Pluto square and a natal Venus-Pluto conjunction also need to be distinguished. One describes a configuration in the sky during this period. The other belongs to the person’s birth chart. A personal reading examines how they connect through the houses, planetary rulers and lunar nodes.

A similar arrangement in another person’s life might be expressed through a stable intimate bond, an ability to face difficult periods together, or artistic sensitivity. If testing a partner and withdrawing are absent from their experience, that interpretation should not be assigned to them. A full reading also considers the precise positions of the Moon, Mars, Saturn, the nodal rulers and the rest of the chart.

Inanna’s story gives us another image of this process. Roles and forms of authority that helped us at one stage of life may need to be reconsidered when we enter a more intimate or demanding experience.

The Myth of Inanna: The Goddess of Love Descends to the Underworld

In Sumerian tradition, Inanna was associated with love, sexual desire, fertility, warfare and sovereignty, as well as the planet Venus. Her descent takes a goddess bearing the full insignia of her authority into a realm governed by different laws: the underworld, ruled by her sister Ereshkigal.

The account below follows the Sumerian story. Ancient versions and modern retellings differ in some details, and parts of the surviving ending are damaged.

Before the Descent: Someone Remains Above

Inanna leaves her offices and temples behind and sets out wearing the garments and ornaments of her power. Before entering the underworld, she gives instructions to her faithful attendant, Ninshubur. If she does not return, Ninshubur is to mourn her and seek help from the gods: first Enlil, then Nanna, and, if they refuse, Enki, the god of wisdom.

At the entrance, the gatekeeper Neti asks why she has come. Inanna says she wishes to attend the funeral rites of Gugalana, Ereshkigal’s deceased husband. When Ereshkigal hears of her arrival, she orders that Inanna be admitted according to the laws of the underworld.

The Seven Gates: The Loss of Status and Protection

At each of the seven gates, an emblem of Inanna’s position is taken from her. The sequence includes her headdress, lapis beads, paired breast ornaments, breastplate, gold ring, lapis measuring rod and line, and finally her royal garment. Some details and their order vary between manuscripts, but the movement is clear: the authority she possesses above cannot grant her passage here on her own terms.

Her objections do not alter the conditions. By the time she stands before her sister, she is naked and stripped of the signs of her rank. In the Sumerian account, she makes Ereshkigal rise from the throne and takes her place. The seven judges of the underworld then fix their gaze upon Inanna, speak against her, and strike her dead. Her body is hung on a hook.

Three Days and Three Nights: The Appeal for Help

After three days and three nights, Ninshubur carries out Inanna’s instructions. Enlil and Nanna refuse the request, but Enki acts. He fashions two tiny beings, Kurgarra and Galatura, and gives them the food of life and the water of life.

They enter the underworld and find Ereshkigal in pain. They respond by acknowledging and echoing her suffering. She offers them a reward. They refuse the water and the field offered to them and ask instead for the body hanging on the hook. Once it is given to them, they apply the life-giving substances. Inanna rises again.

The Price of Returning: Dumuzi’s Fate

Revival does not settle the terms of departure. Inanna must provide a substitute, and beings from the underworld accompany her to find one. She refuses to hand over Ninshubur or the attendants who have mourned her. But when Dumuzi, her husband, is found magnificently dressed and seated on a throne, she gives him into their hands.

Dumuzi appeals to Utu and gains a means of escape through the transformation of his hands and feet. The narrative later turns to Inanna’s grief for him, and a fly plays a part in finding him. In the damaged closing section, Dumuzi and his sister Geshtinanna are assigned alternating periods in the underworld, each spending half the year there. Related stories develop further details of this part of the myth.

Inanna and Relationship Patterns: What Falls Away When You Change

Read psychologically, the seven gates can represent the loss of roles through which we have learned to feel secure: always being strong, always giving, appearing to need nothing, or rescuing other people.

If being useful is how you feel lovable, someone else’s growing independence may feel like rejection. If being agreeable has kept you close to others, expressing anger may feel dangerous. An earlier experience may have taught you that disagreement leads to the withdrawal of affection.

This is a contemporary interpretation of the myth. Inanna’s death and return are symbolic images here, rather than predictions of a literal loss or accident. They speak to the point at which an old identity can no longer carry you, and a different relationship with yourself begins to take shape.

The rescue matters too. Before descending, Inanna leaves a trusted person above. Reliable relationships can be part of how we move through deep change. Developing self-reliance leaves room for accepting help.

The requirement for a substitute also draws attention, symbolically, to the cost of change. A relationship may only become sustainable when you give up being its rescuer. Financial independence may require surrendering an advantage you previously received in exchange for silence. This interpretation offers no justification for harming or sacrificing someone else.

Venus Retrograde in Scorpio: When Intimacy Touches an Old Fear

Scorpio is associated with trust, desire, deep bonding, secrecy, power and shared resources. A relationship can become the place where a person holds much of their emotional security. The possibility of change can then provoke a fear that feels much larger than the immediate situation.

That fear may show up as repeatedly checking messages, testing loyalty, concealing a need, or pulling away just as someone begins to get close. It can also lead someone to abandon their boundaries in the hope of keeping the relationship intact.

The intensity of an attraction tells you very little, on its own, about how safe or suitable a relationship is. A connection that keeps you moving between hope and anxiety can feel extraordinarily powerful. Consistency, respect and accountability deserve equal attention when you assess it.

Venus retrograde in Scorpio offers a useful framework for distinguishing present circumstances from an older alarm. If a partner has broken an agreement, their behaviour and responsibility need to be addressed. If a situation is unclear and there is little evidence to go on, observation and a direct conversation may tell you more than an immediate reaction.

Vulnerability can deepen intimacy when there is a capacity to listen and respond with respect. Where there is intimidation, humiliation or exploitation, practical support and boundaries take priority.

Venus Returns to Libra: Revisiting the Terms of a Relationship

On 25 October, retrograde Venus returns to Libra. Attention shifts towards the structure of the relationship: commitment, fairness, communication and agreements that may never have been clearly stated.

One person may expect daily contact while the other has no idea that this matters so much. One may see shared spending as an expression of partnership, while the other assumes a different financial arrangement. A relationship can continue for a long time with these differences left unspoken, until pressure makes them impossible to overlook.

Here, honesty becomes practical. You can state a need clearly, hear the other person’s response, and assess whether an agreement is possible. A workable agreement leaves room for both people, including their limits, disagreements and changes of mind.

For some couples, this review may lead to a clearer commitment. For others, it exposes a difference that can no longer be set aside. The quality of the relationship and each person’s willingness to participate shape what follows.

The Sun-Venus Conjunction: A New Cycle of Around 584 Days

On 24 October 2026 at 05:44 CEST in Germany, the Sun and retrograde Venus meet at approximately 0°45′ Scorpio. This is the inferior conjunction. Venus passes between Earth and the Sun, although the alignment usually does not produce a transit across the Sun’s visible disc.

In contemporary astrology, this is one of the conjunctions known as a Venus Star Point. It can be taken as the beginning of a new synodic cycle. The mean length of that cycle is 583.92 days, or approximately 584 days from one inferior conjunction to the next. The actual interval between two particular conjunctions can differ from the average.

This is different from Venus’s orbital period around the Sun, which is approximately 224.7 days. The synodic cycle describes the recurring relationship between Venus, the Sun and an observer on Earth.

Symbolically, the inferior conjunction provides a point at which to give a new intention a clearer direction. In Scorpio, that may involve a more specific understanding of trust, retaining agency within intimacy, or clarifying the boundaries around shared resources.

A new cycle gives you a point of orientation. What you do afterwards gives that intention a place in your life. Choosing honesty is tested in an actual conversation. Choosing independence takes shape through everyday decisions.

From Evening Star to Morning Star

Venus, the brightest planet in our sky, becomes difficult to see in the Sun’s glare around the inferior conjunction. Afterwards, it gradually becomes visible before sunrise. The last evening sighting and first morning sighting depend on the location, horizon and observing conditions.

This disappearance and return provide the symbolic connection with Inanna’s descent and reappearance. The three days in the myth should not be treated as a fixed astronomical measure of how long Venus remains unseen.

The Eight-Year Venus Cycle: Looking Back to Autumn 2018

Five Venus synodic cycles are close to eight Earth years. Inferior conjunctions consequently recur in five regions of the zodiac during that interval. Geometric representations of the Earth-Venus relationship produce the familiar pattern resembling a five-petalled flower.

The fit is approximate. Five mean Venus cycles amount to about 2,919.6 days, slightly less than eight years. The conjunction points therefore shift gradually. The pattern is a recurring geometry, with a slow movement over time.

For a personal comparison, autumn 2018 is especially relevant to this retrograde. Venus also turned retrograde in Scorpio and returned to Libra then. That period ran from 5 October to 16 November 2018, covering approximately 10°50′ Scorpio to 25°15′ Libra.

You may remember the beginning or ending of a relationship, a change in what you looked for in a partner, a financial experience, or a decision about independence. A related concern may now appear in different circumstances or through another person. You also bring eight more years of experience to it.

Three brief notes can help: what you accepted then, what you feared, and what choice is available now that felt difficult at the time. The value of the eight-year comparison lies in recognising where you can respond differently to something familiar.

Where the 2020 to 2028 Sequence Fits

The inferior conjunction of 3 June 2020 can be chosen as the starting point for a sequence of five conjunctions. It is followed by 9 January 2022, 13 August 2023, 23 March 2025 and 24 October 2026. The return to the first region on 1 June 2028 brings this sequence close to eight years. These dates are given for Germany.

Within that representation, this year’s conjunction is the fifth point before the return to the original region. It is one way of organising the cycle. It does not establish that everyone’s love life entered the same chapter in 2020. For individual reflection, the comparison between autumn 2018 and autumn 2026 remains more direct.

Three Venus-Pluto Squares: Power, Trust and Dependence

During this cycle, Venus in Scorpio squares Pluto in Aquarius three times. A square is an angular separation of 90°. Astrologically, it describes friction that can make the need for change harder to ignore.

Here, emotional and financial desires may meet questions of power and the fear of loss. The distinction between support and control can become more visible. Someone may begin to see how much freedom or honesty they have given up to preserve their position in a relationship.

First Square: 15 September, a Concern Comes into View

The first square occurred on 15 September 2026 at 20:35 CEST in Germany, close to 3°16′ Scorpio and Aquarius. Venus was direct and Pluto was retrograde.

Read as part of an unfolding process, this contact can describe the first signs of a concern: disagreement about money, sensitivity to distance, a sense of inequality, or an attraction accompanied by unease. Contacts to the birth chart determine how relevant these themes are for a particular person.

Second Square: 20 October, Reviewing Motives and Reactions

The second square becomes exact on 20 October at 08:56 CEST in Germany, close to 3°05′ of the two signs. Venus is now retrograde and Pluto is direct.

This gives us a symbolic point of return to the concern and each person’s part in it. Someone hurt by a lack of attention may recognise that they communicate their need through tests or withdrawal. Someone receiving financial support may become aware of the unspoken expectations they have accepted alongside it.

Recognising your own reaction does not remove the other person’s responsibility. Understanding becomes more useful when both remain visible.

Third Square: 9 December, Putting Change to the Test

The third square occurs on 9 December at 19:37 CET in Germany, close to 3°45′ of the two signs. Both planets are direct.

This can provide a point at which to assess what has changed. An agreement may be clearer, a financial boundary may be holding, or behaviour may have become more reliable. It is also possible to have found a new explanation for a familiar pattern without changing the pattern itself. The final contact can make the distance between insight and action easier to recognise.

An aspect is not confined to its exact minute. Astrologers consider its approach, exact contact and separation. The length of that period depends on the planet’s speed and the orb being used. In an individual reading, contacts to natal placements are also essential.

Venus Retrograde and Relationships: When the Past Returns

An ex-partner may return, but the past can also reappear through a familiar attraction, a need to rescue someone, or the urge to keep proving that you deserve to be loved.

If someone does come back, memories and feelings can be considered alongside their present behaviour: accountability, consistency, respect for boundaries, and change in the very issue that made the relationship difficult before. Missing someone tells you something about your feelings. Deciding whether to rebuild a relationship requires more information.

A relationship that begins during Venus retrograde is not automatically destined to fail. Allowing time for familiarity to develop, discussing expectations and resisting rushed commitments can help you understand what is actually there.

Within an existing relationship, the ability to receive may deserve attention. Some people give easily but struggle to ask for help or express a preference. Others only voice a need once it has become anger. This review can support a different way of approaching each other, with needs expressed before they turn into resentment.

Money and Self-Worth: The Cost of Being Accepted

Venus’s financial themes extend beyond income. They include how you set a price, spend, receive, and agree to share resources.

If losing a client feels intolerable, you may repeatedly provide extra work or accept late payment. Someone else may shop to soothe a sense of lack, only to face greater financial pressure afterwards. In a relationship, gifts, support and debt may carry expectations that have never been openly discussed.

Reviewing your accounts, contracts and the limits of your services gives the reassessment of values a practical form. It makes room to distinguish a commitment you have agreed to from an extra demand, and a considered choice from one driven by the need for approval.

For significant financial decisions, the relevant information, contract terms and what you can realistically afford remain the basis for action. Venus retrograde alone cannot determine the outcome of an investment or transaction.

Where Does This Retrograde Fall in Your Birth Chart?

An individual reading places the span from 22°52′ Libra to 8°29′ Scorpio within the houses of the birth chart. The house Venus crosses describes where a concern may arise. The houses Venus rules show other areas of life connected with it. The reading then considers natal Venus’s degree and aspects, its relationship with Pluto, the lunar nodes and their rulers, the seventh-house ruler and the chart angles.

The second house may bring personal resources and valuation into focus; the seventh, agreements and partnership; the eighth, trust and shared assets; and the tenth, professional value and public standing. These are examples of the topics associated with each house. An interpretation needs the rest of the chart for context.

For example, if Venus rules the seventh house, it connects the house it is crossing with partnership and agreements. If it rules the tenth, work and professional standing also enter the reading. Naming the house of the transit alone cannot explain these connections. Even with similar chart structures, one person may be recognising a pattern for the first time while another is ready to act on a decision they have been considering for months.

Working with Venus Retrograde in Everyday Life

Choose one recurring pattern and describe a recent example in detail. Separate what happened from what you concluded. “They did not reply for two days” is an observation. “I have no value” is a meaning your mind may have attached to it. Then note the feeling, need and response that followed. Creating that small space gives you more room to choose.

Next, identify one change you can put into practice and review: stating an expectation clearly, agreeing a payment date, declining extra work without a new agreement, or allowing a connection to develop before making a commitment. A modest change, repeated, can gradually strengthen trust in your own judgement.

Looking back to autumn 2018 may also help. Place a present decision beside your response then and notice the difference. Growth may be as ordinary as being able to name a need you could not find words for eight years ago.

Venus retrograde can mark the beginning of more deliberate choices about love, trust and your own worth. Those choices become meaningful through the way you live them.

To explore what this cycle means in your life, a SOLVANA Personal Transit and Timing reading places Venus’s movement within your birth chart. The houses involved and the exact contacts help identify where this period of reassessment offers the greatest opportunity for change.
